Lezzie Calendar
In 2003, JD Samson (Le Tigre, MEN) created
a calendar entitled "JD's Lesbian Calendar".
The calendar was made in hopes to create visibility
for the butch lesbian, as worker and household character
through the familiar format of the photo calendar.
As a fan and friend, I wanted to re-create my own
xerox copied version as a tribute and extension
of that identity. In 2005, I was a part of JD's
next calendar project: "JD's Lesbian Utopia".
As 5 lezzies in an RV, we travelled around the southern
US documenting and experiencing gay and lesbian
campgrounds and how they acted as alternative forms
of community. Finished project: A bitchin' calendar,
an installation at Deitch Gallery in NYC, and hundreds
of hours of footage that has yet to surface into
a finished product, but is coming soon!!!!
